The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria announces a significant transformation in its examination methodology, opting for the Computer-Based Examination (CBE) mode for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). This shift towards innovation will commence with the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates in February 2024.

- In alignment with global best practices, WAEC Nigeria is transitioning its WASSCE for private candidates from traditional paper and pencil testing to a Computer-Based Examination (CBE).
- The inaugural implementation of this innovation is scheduled for the WASSCE for private candidates, 2024 – first series, beginning in February 2024.
- Objective tests will be entirely computer-based, while essay and practical papers will be hybrid, with questions displayed on screens and candidates recording answers on provided answer booklets.
- The examination will be conducted in urban centers/cities, with provisions made for candidates with special needs.
- Registration for the computer-based examination opens on Monday, December 18, 2023.
